International Security Observatory
Manuel J. Gazapo Lapayese is the Chief Manager of the International Security Observatory and a member of the Cultural Landscape Research Group (GIPC) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He is also a member of the International Cooperation and Security Research Group (UNISCI) of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
As a PhD Candidate he holds a BSc in International Relations (Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain, 2014) and an MSc in International Affairs: Economics, Politics and Law (Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICADE, Madrid, Spain, 2015). He is also a graduate in different areas of study such as international conflict prevention, food security, international security or the influence of the media in the diplomatic relations between Spain and the United States of America. He holds a Diploma in Economics, Politics and Security by Georgetown University.
He is the author of the following scientific texts: “Nuevos riesgos, nuevas amenazas: Terrorismo y crimen organizado en el ciberespacio” (Madrid, 2016), “Ciberespacio y Terrorismo: el uso de la Red como medio de propaganda, reclutamiento, expansión y destrucción” (Madrid, 2015), “Terrorism and Cyberterrorism: The New Face of a Traditional Threat” (Birmingham, 2015), “Terrorism, a threat in constant evolutionstill misunderstood” (Zúrich, 2015) and “Cyberscape: Cybersecurity as a field for contemporary confrontation” (Bucarest, 2015).
His current research areas are the metamorphosis of terrorism in the XXI century and the mechanisms through which urban infrastructure and citizens adapt to security risks.
He has been the coordinator for the following events at GIPC:
