This international workshop adresses urban landscapes, offering a critical perspective on the practices surrounding natural and cultural heritage in open public spaces in the Madrid metropolitan area. The focus is not only on the role of designers and planners, but also on the relationship between communities and landscapes. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, it integrates art, architecture, history, agency, sociopolitics and public debate. The result is an international approach offering participants a wide variety of interdisciplinary perspectives. To this end, the BIP includes city walks, archive visits, lectures, presentations, mapping exercises and debates with professors and guest speakers.

The scientific program for the seminar ‘Living Landscapes in Madrid’ is based on the research proposal and methodology of the research project ‘HERITAGESCAPES: Critical mapping of the metropolitan cultural landscape. Future heritage‘.
