In 2027, Ciudad Universitaria, the main campus of the Madrid Region celebrates its 100th anniversary, an event that will be preceded by a series of cultural, institutional and academic events linked to its history, its legacy and its future. As part of these events, a series of critical meetings have been planned to debate the heritage, the landscape and the architecture of the Ciudad Universitaria campus, the challenges they face and the opportunities they offer.

Throughout 2024, the Official Architects’ Association of Madrid (COAM), together with the ETSAM, the Cultural Landscape Research Group and the Complutense University of Madrid, has been organizing a series of research seminars on the main architectural archives that document the buildings and urban planning of Ciudad Universitaria. The first of these dealt with the archive of the Historical Service of the COAM and the second with the Architecture Archive of the ETSAM. The main objective of these sessions has been to explore and make known documentary collections of tremendous value, which will undoubtedly be of great use in discussing the heritage value of the University City in its centenary.

This third event will include an introduction to the General Archive of the UCM by Ana Rocasolano and Isabel Palomera, a guest lecture by Professor Pablo Campos Calvo-Sotelo and the presentation of the work developed on the UCM General Archive by students of the Master’s Degree in Cultural Heritage in the 21st Century: Management and Research. Finally, there will be a round table of conclusions with the participation of representatives of the various institutions involved and Madrid’s City Council. The meeting is curated by Nicolás Mariné.
